At Hayti Reborn, our mission is clear: we are committed to preserving the rich history and culture of the Hayti community while ensuring its future is one of equity, opportunity, and inclusion. We strive to foster economic empowerment, create spaces for Black-owned businesses, and ensure that current residents have access to the resources, opportunities, and ownership necessary to thrive. Our goal is to prevent the erasure of Hayti’s legacy and protect its residents from displacement and gentrification.

Because of you, we were able to stop Sterling Bay from moving forward with the general zoning change they were seeking for the redevelopment of Hayti’s Heritage Square.

They never needed this kind of rezoning to build — and worse, it would have accelerated the erasure of the historic Hayti community. But thanks to your voices, your organizing, and your commitment, we held the line.

But the fight isn’t over. Now we go before the Durham City Council — and we need your voice once again.

Heritage Square is not just land — it’s legacy. It deserves development that honors Hayti’s past and invests in its future, not one that displaces and erases.

STAY WOKE, DURHAM!
